Isolated and enigmatic in the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is the Late Neolithic henge and circle of standing stones known as Bedd Arthur (‘Arthur’s Grave’). It is claimed by local folklore to be the final resting place of King Arthur. The stone circle is in the vicinity of, and is contemporary with, the source of Stonehenge's bluestones and its name relates to its current shape (a horseshoe) which resembles a grave. In fact, the site is not a typical stone circle and may have originally been a tomb – the mound having disappeared in the 4800 or so years since it was built.
